Charley Pride, one of country music’s all-time greatest artists, died on December 12, 2020, at the age of 86.
Pride charted dozens of hits throughout his career, including “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’,” “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone,” “I’ll Be Leaving Alone,” and “Kaw-Liga.”
Pride made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 1967 and became a member in 1993. He was a member for 27 years before he passed away.
Now, the Opry plans to honor Charley with a special tribute show.
As part of its ongoing Opry 100 Honors series, the Opry has announced its intentions to celebrate Pride’s life and career on September 22nd. The upcoming program will be held at the Grand Ole Opry House.
The show will feature a stellar lineup of performers, with more names to be announced in the future. But so far, we know that Darius Rucker, Pam Tillis, Neal McCoy, and Charley’s own son, Dion Pride, will be participating.

Charley Pride’s Son Speaks About Upcoming Opry Tribute Show
According to Billboard, $5 from every ticket sold to the Charley Pride tribute show will benefit the Opry Trust Fund. The Fund was founded in 1965 with a mission “to help those in the country music industry when they need it the most, by offering financial assistance during their time of need. “
The fund helps members of the country music community cover medical bills, living expenses, utility bills, rent, or mortgage payments in cases of “extraordinary need, emergency, or catastrophe.” The fund has distributed over $4.8 million since its inception more than 60 years ago.
Artists such as Loretta Lynn, Charlie Daniels, and Hank Williams have been remembered during other Opry 100 Honors shows, which also benefited the Opry Trust Fund.
Looking ahead to the show honoring his father, Dion Pride had this to say in a statement quoted by Billboard:
“The Grand Ole Opry held a very special place in my father’s heart, and our family is deeply grateful to see his music and legacy celebrated on the stage he loved so much. It will be an honor to perform alongside artists who admired him and to share his songs with the fans who have kept them alive for generations.”
