‘Real’ reason Princess Eugenie gave birth in Portugal and not the UK

Princess Eugenie has given birth to a baby daughter, but the joyous event was slightly different from her previous pregnancies. The daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, announced the news on Tuesday evening.
The couple’s latest addition to their family was born on Monday at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, weighing 6lb 9oz, and mother and baby are said to be doing well. It is a rare occasion for a member of the Royal Family to have been born overseas, but Eugenie and Jack have a home and other connections in Portugal. Eugenie and Jack have been splitting their time between the UK and Portugal since 2022, when they moved there due to Jack’s work.

In 2022, Jack Brooksbank accepted a job as a marketing executive with Discovery Land Company in Portugal.
The company operates luxurious resorts around the world, including the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in Comporta, where Jack and Eugenie live.
Eugenie has previously opened up about living in Portugal, telling the Table Manners podcast in 2023: “This is why Portugal is the dream because I can go to the supermarket in my exercise gear and my hair piled on my head and not mind. Not care. No one cares.”
A year later, in 2024, Eugenie revealed that her sons love living in Portugal. She told Hello! magazine: “They love swimming. The sea in Portugal is a little bit rougher.

“So we’ve got our feet in, but Augie is a fish. He literally loves it and we have whales and dolphins all across the walls.”
While in the UK, the princess and her family use the three-bedroom Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace.
