£20,000 Suddenly Slipped Away as Nine Contestants Fell on One Brutal Question. Sarah Hannon Had Lee Mack in Her Sights After Her Shock Exit, Then a Minnie Driver Joke Sent The 1% Club Crowd Into Hysterics

The 1% Club made a comeback to ITV screens on Saturday night and saw contestant Sarah Hannon humorously blamed her loss on host Lee Mack.

The hit show, which is fronted by comedian Lee, saw 100 contestants play for a prize of up to £100,000 by answering questions that only one percent of the country could get right.

In a repeated episode, contestant Sarah missed out on the final round and said the mistake was down to Lee.

Lee presented a question: ‘Which is the odd one out? ‘ from a list of five items – a cat, bat, coat, hat, and a house mat’.

After nine contestants failed to answer correctly, Lee revealed the answer, stating: ‘Cat, bat, and mat all rhyme but coat doesn’t.’

When asked about her incorrect answer, Sarah responded: ‘I’m going to blame you because I’m star-struck.’

Lee replied: ‘You look like Minnie Driver’, which led to a humorous exchange between the pair.

Sarah asked: ‘Minnie Driver, what’s that? ‘ and Lee joked: ‘I’m not having a go at you. You don’t look like a Mini driver, you look like the kind of woman who drives a Mini.’

He added: ‘No, Minnie Driver. There’s an actress called Minnie Driver and you look like Minnie Driver.’

Sarah replied: ‘I’m too young for that.’

Before Lee clarified: ‘No, Minnie Driver when she was younger.’

Sarah appeared confused as Lee quipped: ‘Sorry not Minnie Driver, Richard Hammond.’

Following the round, presenter Lee revealed those advancing now stood to win £20,000.

He said: ‘So, the £1,000 of everyone who got the question wrong now goes into the prize pot so let’s see what that’s done to the total.’

Turning to the display, Lee disclosed: ‘That’s £20,000.’

In an earlier episode, what appeared at first to be a straightforward question from the 30 per cent section, got some fans of the show worked up.

It read: ‘Amrit and his grandad share the same birthday. Their birthday balloons arrive muddled up. Amrit’s grandad is three times older than him. How old is Amrit?’

Four gold balloons were on display beneath the question shaped in the numbers six, eight, seven and two.

It was anticipated the answer would be that Amrit is 26 years old, making his grandfather 78.

However, one person commented on the show’s official Instagram page, claiming: ‘My other half is adamant that his answer of 29 is also right.’

They added: ‘There’s no string on those balloons, therefore you could turn the 6 upside down. 3×29=87 What do you reckon? Was he still in, or was he out of the game?’

Viewers also took to Twitter to offer their thoughts, with one person writing: ‘Could’ve been 2 answers which is odd…flip the 6 round to a 9 and could’ve been 29 and 87.’

Someone else shared: ‘It could also be 29 ie one third of 87? If I had put that in the studio I would expect to Appeal!!! Previous questions have used balloons to switch 6 and 9s!!!’

While another person posted: ‘Hmm they should’ve drawn strings on the bottoms of the balloons if they wanted to avoid people turning the 6 upside down for 29 and 87.’
