Pia Toscano has shared details of a warm encounter with Meghan Markle after meeting the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry during the David Foster Foundation’s 40th anniversary celebration in Canada.
The 37-year-old American Idol alum, who is expecting her first child with husband Carmen Educate, performed at the star-studded gala on Friday, August 7. After taking the stage to sing “Feeling Good,” Toscano later approached Harry and Meghan at their head table — where the conversation quickly turned to her pregnancy.
According to Toscano, Harry moved a chair aside for her before the couple embraced her and offered their congratulations. Meghan then touched the singer’s baby bump and shared a simple message about the chapter ahead.
“This is the most beautiful time of your life,” Meghan told her.
For Toscano, who has previously spoken about the long journey that preceded her pregnancy, the brief exchange came during an especially meaningful period in her life.

Toscano and Educate are expecting a baby girl, their first child together. The singer is already a stepmother to Educate’s five children from a previous relationship and said that experience has taught her valuable lessons about patience, love and parenthood.

She described their daughter as a “beautiful addition” to the family and acknowledged that major changes are ahead.
“I know life is about to change in the best possible way, and while I’m sure there will be challenges, I’m so excited to embrace this next chapter, continue growing as a mom, and finally meet our little girl,” Toscano said.
The singer also believes motherhood could influence her creatively, bringing new inspiration to her music and the stories she chooses to share.
“It feels like such a meaningful transition, and I can’t wait to see how this chapter shapes the things we create and the memories we make together,” she added.
Toscano first publicly revealed her pregnancy in July. At the time, she spoke about a “long and meaningful journey” toward motherhood, explaining that a period of waiting and hoping had profoundly shaped her.
Before learning she was expecting, Toscano had imagined music would be the next major thing she brought into the world. The pregnancy, which she called a “miracle and blessing,” gave that next chapter an entirely different meaning.
Meghan’s words carried personal resonance
Meghan’s message to Toscano also came from someone who has publicly discussed her own experiences with motherhood.
The Duchess and Prince Harry share two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. In November 2020, Meghan wrote publicly about suffering a miscarriage earlier that year, when Archie was one.
That same year, Meghan and Harry stepped away from their roles as senior working members of the royal family and eventually established their family life in Montecito, California.
At the time, a source close to the couple said they had been looking for a smaller community and a slower pace of life, describing Montecito and the wider Santa Barbara area as well suited to what they wanted.
David Foster’s longstanding connection to Harry and Meghan
The August 7 celebration also highlighted the couple’s longstanding friendship with David Foster.
Foster played a notable role during Harry and Meghan’s transition back to North America. In 2019, he helped arrange for the couple to stay at a friend’s mansion on Vancouver Island, giving them an opportunity to remain out of the spotlight while considering their future.
Foster later said he was happy to help the couple find somewhere they could enjoy some respite and time away.
Toscano has her own long-running professional connection with Foster, having worked with the celebrated musician and producer since 2017.
She was not the only performer to come away from the anniversary gala with warm impressions of Harry and Meghan.

Britain’s Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas also spoke positively about meeting the couple, describing Harry as a “very kind soul” with a “kind face, kind eyes.”
Christmas said Meghan appeared comfortable among the guests, seemingly knowing many of those in attendance and looking as though she was enjoying the evening.
For Toscano, however, one of the night’s most personal memories came after the music had stopped — a brief congratulations from Harry and a nine-word message from Meghan as she prepares to welcome her daughter.
