‘How Did 17 People Miss That?’ 😳 One 30-second Question Turned Into A £17,000 Wipeout On The 1% Club. It Was Only A 70% Question, And On Paper It Looked Almost Ridiculously Simple. The Contestants Had To Scan A List Of Numbers Running From 1 To 61 And Find The One Missing From The Sequence. That Was It. But 30 Seconds Can Feel Very Different When The Pressure Is On. When The Answers Were Locked In, 17 Contestants Were Suddenly Eliminated, Sending The Jackpot Soaring From £12,000 To £29,000. Lee Mack’s Reaction Captured The Shock As The Scale Of The Wipeout Became Clear. The Controversy Came Afterwards. Once The Missing Number Was Revealed, It Looked Painfully Obvious To Some Viewers. Others Argued That The Countdown Made The Supposedly Easy Question Much More Deceptive Than It Seemed. Was It Really An Easy Question, Or Did 30 Seconds Turn A Simple Number Puzzle Into A Brutal Trap?

The 1% Club: Difficult Numbers Question Leaves 17 Players Stumped

A numbers question on ITV’s The 1% Club proved far harder than expected, with 17 contestants eliminated after failing to identify the missing number.

Presented by Lee Mack, the weekend primetime game show puts contestants through a series of riddles and puzzles rather than testing traditional general knowledge.

The 100 players must rely on logic, reasoning and common sense, with only 30 seconds to solve each question. As the rounds progress, contestants are gradually eliminated.

Each player who leaves adds £1,000 to the prize pot, giving those who survive a chance to compete for a potentially substantial jackpot and a place in the prestigious 1% Club.

Lee, 56, reached the show’s 70% question, which challenged the contestants with a deceptively simple numbers puzzle.

He asked: “Here is a range of numbers from 1 to 61. What is the missing number?”

The screen displayed the numbers in a brightly coloured box, with the rainbow of colours making the arrangement appear slightly jumbled.

As the contestants concentrated on finding the answer, Lee joked about the pressure of hosting the show.

“If you find this stressful, think about the pressure I’m under,” he said.

He then added: “In a minute I’ve got to pretend my surprise that some of you got it wrong.”

The missing number was 29. Surprisingly, 17 contestants failed to identify it correctly and were eliminated.

17 players leave in one round

Lee appeared genuinely surprised when the result was revealed, while audible gasps could be heard from the audience.

“Woah. Quite a lot that time, we lost 17 of you,” he remarked.

He repeated the answer to make clear just how many players had been caught out by the puzzle.

“It’s 29. We lost 17 players there,” he said.

The mass elimination had a significant effect on the jackpot. With £1,000 added for every contestant knocked out, the prize jumped from £12,000 to £29,000 in a single round.
