Dolly Parton’s Niece Confirms the Country Legend Has Been Laid to Rest Beside Husband Carl Dean in a Simple Family Funeral
Dolly Parton has been laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Carl Dean, following a private and simple funeral attended by family and close loved ones.
The country music icon’s niece, Lainey Mae Parton, confirmed the heartbreaking news Saturday in an emotional Instagram post, revealing that her aunt was laid to rest on Friday, August 28.
“This is a really hard post for me to make,” Lainey wrote alongside a slideshow of family photographs featuring Dolly with her nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
She explained that she had waited until after Dolly had been laid to rest before trying to put her grief into words.
For Lainey and the rest of Dolly’s family, the superstar was much more than a legendary singer and songwriter. She was affectionately known as “Aunt Granny” to her nieces and nephews — a beloved family figure who made them feel supported, encouraged and deeply loved.
“She always had a way of making me feel like I was enough,” Lainey wrote. “She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something.”
“She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself.”
Lainey also shared a particularly touching reflection on her relationship with her aunt.
“Most people can think of at least one bad memory with everyone in their family,” she wrote. “I honestly can’t think of one with her.”
Dolly did not have children of her own, and Lainey said that she nevertheless made all of her nieces and nephews feel as though they were hers.
Now, Lainey says, the family is left with memories of Dolly’s voice, laughter and hugs. “It still doesn’t feel real that she’s gone,” she wrote. “I’m going to miss her voice, her laugh, her hugs, and just knowing she was there.”
A quiet farewell for a larger-than-life star
The funeral took place at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, according to Page Six.
Family members were photographed gathering at the site Friday, while a source confirmed that the gathering was indeed Dolly’s funeral.
Bryan Seaver, Dolly’s nephew and head of security, was reportedly in charge of the arrangements.
Despite spending decades as one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world, Dolly was given the kind of farewell that appeared to reflect her wishes.
“It was a very simple ceremony,” a source told Page Six.
“That’s all Dolly wanted.”
Dolly was reportedly laid to rest beside Carl Dean, her husband of 58 years, who died in March 2025 at the age of 82.
Their love story began decades before Dolly became a global superstar. The couple met outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat shortly after an 18-year-old Dolly arrived in Nashville to pursue her music career.
Carl was 21 at the time. They married in 1966 and remained together for nearly six decades, maintaining a famously private relationship away from the constant attention surrounding Dolly’s career.
Now, the couple have been reunited in their final resting place.
Dolly was reportedly set to be buried in a cotton dress and her signature stilettos — a fitting final touch for a woman whose unmistakable style became as famous as her music.
The legacy Dolly leaves behind
Dolly Parton’s career stretched across more than seven decades, producing some of country music’s most enduring songs, including “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.”
But for her family, her greatest legacy may not be found in her countless awards, records or worldwide fame.
It may be found in the way she made the people closest to her feel.
For Lainey, Dolly was the aunt who believed in her before she believed in herself.
For generations of nieces and nephews, she was “Aunt Granny.”
And for millions around the world, she was the woman whose music became part of their lives.
Now that Dolly is gone, her family must learn to live without the voice, laughter and presence they had always known.
But Lainey’s words offer a glimpse of how Dolly will be remembered by those who knew her best — not simply as a country music legend, but as a deeply loved member of the family who made people feel that their dreams were worth believing in.
After a lifetime spent entertaining the world, Dolly Parton’s final farewell was reportedly exactly what she wanted: quiet, intimate and surrounded by the people she loved.
