Kelly Clarkson has once again reminded fans why she is one of the most powerful live singers in the music world.

During the Aug. 31 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer took on Golden, one of the biggest songs from Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters. The performance quickly went viral, with millions of viewers stunned by how effortlessly Clarkson handled the song’s extremely difficult vocals.

Golden became a massive hit after appearing in KPop Demon Hunters. In the movie, the song is performed by the fictional K-pop group HUNTR/X, with vocals from Korean American artists EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami.

The song is already known as a major vocal challenge. It covers more than two and a half octaves and reaches an incredibly high A5 note. EJAE has previously explained that she does not perform the song in its original key during live shows, instead lowering it by a step.

That made Clarkson’s decision to take on the song even more impressive.

The performance was part of a Kellyoke segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show called Kelly by Request, where Clarkson sang songs requested by her fans. The clip quickly spread across social media and reportedly collected more than 30 million views.

Fans could not believe what they were hearing.

“This is basically the singing equivalent of a perfect game in baseball,” one viewer wrote.

Another fan praised Clarkson’s performance by saying, “I’m sorry, but this is genuinely the biggest flex I’ve ever seen.”

Others were amazed that she could sing such a demanding song live without changing the original key.

“If anyone can do it, it’s Kelly,” another fan wrote.

One viewer also looked back at Clarkson’s American Idol victory and wrote, “We really struck gold in American Idol, S1.”

The reactions continued as fans pointed out just how difficult Golden is, especially because of its huge vocal range and extremely high notes.

One fan compared performing the song to “scaling Mt Everest for singers,” adding that it was an “impossible song” originally written for a fictional demon to sing.

Even actor and songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda appeared impressed by Clarkson’s version, adding to the growing praise surrounding the performance.

Golden was already one of the biggest songs of its time. The track spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the fastest song to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. Its success also helped it make history at major awards shows.

But Clarkson’s live version gave the song another huge moment.

The singer later discussed the performance with her fellow coaches from Season 30 of The Voice. Clarkson will return to the show alongside Adam Levine, Queen Latifah and Riley Green when the new season premieres Sept. 21.

For fans, though, Clarkson’s Golden performance may be remembered as another example of just how much she can do with her voice.

The song was created to showcase the extraordinary vocal abilities of a fictional character. Clarkson simply proved that a real singer could take on the challenge too.
