Jennifer Nettles delivered a deeply emotional tribute on Friday as Americans across the country marked the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

The Sugarland singer honored the thousands of people who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks by performing Vince Gill’s Go Rest High on That Mountain in New York City.

Standing near the site where the attacks took place, Nettles needed only a microphone and her powerful voice. Her performance carried the weight of the moment as she sang the beloved country classic for a crowd remembering those who were lost.

The tribute quickly touched viewers online, with the performance receiving more than 1.2 million views.

“A perfect tribute to all the lives lost,” one fan wrote.

Before taking the stage, Nettles shared a video reflecting on the emotional challenge of performing during such an important ceremony.

“It is always hard to sing within the presence of, and while holding, such emotion,” she wrote. Nettles explained that the sadness in the crowd made the performance especially difficult, but she believed it was important to sing through the pain.

“It was my honor to try and offer comfort and connection to these precious people,” she said.

Nettles also thanked Gill for writing what she described as one of the most “amazing modern hymns.”

Before performing the song, Nettles reached out to Gill and received his blessing to sing it at the 9/11 commemoration.

For Nettles, the performance was more than another appearance on stage. It was a chance to honor the victims and help keep their memories alive through music.
