AFTER 18 YEARS, RANDY TRAVIS JUST OPENED A DOOR MANY FANS THOUGHT HAD CLOSED FOREVER. The Country Music Hall of Famer is officially returning with his first album of original music in nearly two decades, built from previously unreleased recordings made before his 2013 stroke. The project begins with the new song “Fish On,” giving longtime listeners a rare chance to hear Randy’s original voice on songs that stayed hidden in the vault for years. The story behind why these recordings were saved, how they were brought back to life, and the emotional way the announcement was made makes this comeback even more meaningful than it first appears.

After nearly two decades, Randy Travis is readying new, original music for release.

The country music icon’s most recent album, Around The Bend, was released in 2008. This week, during a visit to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Randy announced that a new album of original music is on the way, nearly twenty years later.

Randy and fellow country music artist, Alexandra Kay, previewed the recordings for patients and families at the hospital. Alexandra also performed some of Randy’s iconic hits, including “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “I Told You So,” and “Deeper Than The Holler.”

With the help of his wife, Mary, Randy shared:

“Sharing the love of music for decades with listeners of all ages has been an honor of mine. I feel extremely blessed. Earlier this week, as we announced my new album and played some of the songs for the children and families at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, I was reminded of my reason for doing it.”

How was the album made?

Randy Travis suffered from a nearly fatal stroke in 2013, causing severe left-brain damage. This resulted in expressive aphasia, which impacts his ability to speak and sing, and requires long-term wheelchair use.

The new record was assembled by Randy’s longtime producer, Kyle Lehning, who remixed and remastered original recordings from throughout his career to make it happen. The name and release date have not yet been announced.

Randy reflected on his Children’s Hospital visit and shared:

“Gratitude and appreciation welled up as emotions I didn’t expect when stories were shared about a particular song’s impact on their lives. I hope these dusted-off songs from the vault touch folks the same old way.”

Randy Travis Releases First Single From New Album

The first song from the forthcoming album, “Fish On,” was released this Friday, July 10th. To celebrate the release, Randy Travis and team hid fishing bobbers attached to signed Polaroid photographs around Nashville, Tennessee.
