Dolly Parton has been laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Carl Dean, following her heartbreaking death at the age of 80.

The country music legend passed away on August 25 after a brief battle with cancer, leaving millions of fans and fellow artists around the world mourning one of the most beloved figures in music.

But despite her enormous fame, Parton did not want a large public funeral.

The singer had made her wishes clear long before her death. Rather than having a huge ceremony surrounded by cameras and crowds, she wanted a quiet farewell with only her closest family members present.

“At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family,” her family said.

Now, Parton has been reunited with Dean, her husband of nearly six decades, at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville.

Around a dozen members of Parton’s family were reportedly seen at the cemetery on Friday morning. Relatives arrived carrying flowers, while police and security officers were also present.

It has not been confirmed whether the gathering was the funeral itself, but Parton’s nephew Bryan Seaver was reportedly among those helping with the arrangements. Seaver also served as Parton’s head of security for more than two decades.

Parton’s final resting place is next to Dean, who died at the age of 82 in March 2025.

The mausoleum also holds the remains of Dean’s parents, Virginia “Ginny” Bates and Edgar “Ed” Dean. Parton is also surrounded by other country music legends buried at Woodlawn, including George Jones, Tammy Wynette, and Marty Robbins.

For Parton, the location carries another deeply personal connection to her life.

A Final Tribute To Her Tennessee Childhood

Photos of the couple’s tomb show a bronze design featuring a peaceful mountain landscape inspired by Tennessee.

The memorial also includes images that appear to pay tribute to the couple’s childhood homes, including the small cabin where Parton grew up.

Before she became one of the biggest stars in the world, Parton was raised in a tiny log cabin in the Tennessee mountains with her parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

The family lived without electricity or running water, but Parton never described her childhood simply as a life of hardship.

Instead, she often remembered the cabin with love and gratitude because it was where her family was together.

That childhood remained an important part of Parton’s identity throughout her life, making the mountain-inspired design on her final resting place especially meaningful.

Dolly Wanted Comfort After A Life Of Rhinestones

Parton also had very specific thoughts about what she wanted to wear when she was laid to rest.

According to her nephew Bryan, the singer wanted to be comfortable after spending decades performing in glamorous outfits covered in rhinestones.

“She wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton,” Bryan recalled Parton telling him.

Her final outfit is reportedly expected to include a comfortable cotton dress along with the high heels that became one of her most recognizable fashion choices.

It is a fitting combination for Parton, who spent her career balancing comfort, humor, and her unmistakable sense of glamour.

The Song Dolly Chose For Her Own Funeral

Parton had even chosen a song she hoped would be performed at her funeral.

In a 2014 interview with Entertainment Weekly, she revealed that she wanted If We Never Meet Again to be part of her final farewell.

The country-gospel song held a deeply personal meaning because it had also been performed at her father’s funeral.

“That was my Daddy’s favourite,” Parton explained at the time. “We did sing it at his funeral, and I would like it to be sung at mine.”

Now, after a career that lasted for decades, that wish carries an especially emotional meaning.

Parton spent her life writing songs about family, faith, love, loss, and finding hope during difficult times. Even in planning her own farewell, she chose something deeply connected to the people and memories that mattered most to her.

Her private funeral reflects exactly what she wanted: no huge spectacle, no grand performance, and no need for the world to watch.

Just family, memories, music, and the people she loved most.

And now, Dolly Parton is resting beside Carl Dean, finally reunited with the man she loved for nearly 60 years.
