Riley Green had some big words for Joe Henley after the 19-year-old country singer delivered an impressive performance during Season 30 of The Voice. Henley’s version of Keith Whitley’s classic hit left all four coaches on their feet and earned him a spot in the upcoming Live Shows.
It is rare for all four coaches to give an artist a standing ovation, but that was exactly what happened after Henley finished singing “Don’t Close Your Eyes,” Whitley’s 1988 hit. The Alabama native once again showed off his deep voice and wide vocal range, winning praise for his ability to capture the sound of one of country music’s most respected singers.
The performance aired during Cut Week on November 2, as contestants fought for their places in the Live Shows.

Joe Henley’s Performance Earns Praise From All Four Coaches
After Henley finished singing, host Carson Daly was quick to joke about the performance and Riley Green’s team.
“Riley, you got a great team, man. Too bad you couldn’t find a country singer,” Daly said with a laugh. “I mean, it’s a shame.”
Kelly Clarkson was among the first coaches to praise Henley’s vocal ability. She was impressed by his natural sound and the control he showed throughout the song.
“Oh my gosh, from the first notes out of your mouth, that natural style, your natural tone of your voice is incredible,” Clarkson said.

She also made it clear that she expected him to go far in the competition.
“If you’re not in the finale, I would be mind-blown,” she added.
Henley has been one of the artists to watch since his Blind Audition. After he earned a spot on Green’s team, the country star joined him onstage for a short duet of his hit song “My Way.” Their voices blended well, and the performance quickly caught viewers’ attention.

Months later, Henley was still impressing his coach. Green praised the singer for handling such a challenging song and described him as naturally talented.
Then he delivered one of his biggest compliments yet.
“If I could sing like you, I wouldn’t answer the phone when Adam called. I would be so rich and famous,” Green joked, referring to fellow coach Adam Levine.
“Awesome performance, dude,” he added.
Riley Green Sends Joe Henley to the Live Shows
Henley’s performance did more than earn praise. It also helped secure his place in the next stage of the competition.
After hearing him sing, Green confirmed that Henley would advance to the Season 30 Live Shows, joining the coach’s other selected artists.
“Joe, you crushed it man,” Green told him.

The country singer later explained what makes Henley’s voice stand out from other contestants.
“Joe’s voice is warm but also it has a cut to it that’ll make you really sit your beer down and look up and see who’s singing,” Green said.
Henley will join fellow Team Riley artists Cade Mower and the duo Ferryn & Brinkley when the Live Shows begin on Monday, November 9, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. The episodes will also be available through Peacock, with the broadcast simulcast across time zones.
With all four coaches standing for his Cut Week performance and Green comparing his own career to what he might have achieved with Henley’s voice, the young singer has given fans another reason to watch his journey on The Voice.
