From time to time, viewers hunt for quality entertainment, but a particular series available on Netflix has left audiences utterly captivated. Television enthusiasts have been singing its praises, hailing it as an absolute masterpiece, and it’s ready to stream on the platform right now.
It was recently thrust into the spotlight on TikTok when Devon Jane sought recommendations for viewing material. In a frank clip, she wrote: “I need a series so good that ‘just one more episode’ turns into 3am”, and the statement quickly sparked widespread discussion, with numerous people eager to put forward some suggestions available on Netflix.
This isn’t the sole programme to have seized viewers’ attention of late, either, despite seemingly keeping many awake past 3am. Just weeks earlier, others confessed another series proved so compelling they had little option but to devour it in one sitting.
One viewer simply responded: “The Last Kingdom.” This isn’t the first occasion the programme has been drawn to people’s notice, either.

Over on Reddit, scores of people have similarly spoken highly of the series. It appears many have been completely enthralled by it.
What have people been saying?

Numerous viewers have heaped praise on the show. One person said: “The Last Kingdom is literally the best series on Netflix in my opinion. 100 times better than Game of Thrones.”
Another added: “Watched it three times over already. About to start my fourth.”
A third replied: “The Last Kingdom is one of the best series anywhere ever. My other two big recommendations are Mindhunter and Turn: Washington Spies.”
A fourth viewer chimed in: “I also just blasted through the whole show. Felt that real emptiness after a show ends that I haven’t felt in a while.”
Another enthusiastic fan added: “It is great. I binge-watched it last year, and I’ve been searching for a comparable show ever since.”
What’s the plot?

For the uninitiated, The Last Kingdom is a British historical drama series created and developed by Stephen Butchard, drawing inspiration from The Saxon Stories series of novels by Bernard Cornwell.
The show first aired in 2015 on BBC Two. Netflix stepped in as co-producer for the second series before fully acquiring it in 2018, with the drama ultimately concluding in March 2022 after five series – though it remains available to stream on the platform.
A feature-length sequel, Seven Kings Must Die, wrapped up the show’s storyline and premiered on Netflix in April 2023.
At its heart, the series chronicles the formation of England during the ninth and tenth centuries, following Uhtred of Bebbanburg, a Saxon nobleman captured as a youngster and brought up amongst Vikings.
Caught between his birthright and his devotion to those who raised him, Uhtred must navigate a bitterly divided and war-ravaged Britain. You can stream it on Netflix right now.
