The Pitt star Supriya Ganesh reveals battle with gender dysphoria and pronoun struggles after exiting show
The Pitt star Supriya Ganesh has opened up about battling gender dysphoria.
The 28-year-old, who identifies as queer and uses she/they pronouns, started experiencing gender dysphoria after moving to the U.S. from India for college in 2015.
Supriya wrote in Vulture: ‘I’d never questioned my gender before I came to America. I came to the U.S. thinking it would be where I would get to explore my queerness without cultural taboo or shame. In some ways, this was certainly true, but I also began to feel dysphoric.’

Supriya said that labels like nonbinary and genderqueer didn’t feel like the right fit.
The star added: ‘I still felt like a woman, but I didn’t always feel comfortable performing womanhood in the way the West had deemed appropriate.
‘Existing in the American entertainment industry can feel like you’re experiencing discrimination less as a person and more as a concept.’

Supriya finally found a fitting gender category after seeing an interview with actress Lily Gladstone, best known for starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Killers Of The Flower Moon.
Supriya wrote: ‘[Gladstone] said in an interview that she uses rolling she/they pronouns in honor of their Blackfoot heritage and to decolonize gender for themselves.
‘I’d seen people use she/they or they/them pronouns before, but this was the first time I’d felt so seen by it – as a reaction against a colonial apparatus that took something away from them.’
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Supriya – who has played Dr Mohan since the first season of the hit HBO show – would not be returning for season three.

The Pitt’s leading man Noah Wyle recently spoke out about Supriya’s departure.
The 54-year-old actor reacted to the change-up in the cast and explained that ’emergency rooms have a high revolving door’.
‘It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show,’ Wyle told Variety at The Pitt’s event at PaleyFest in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Wyle said that ‘as writers, we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically’.
He continued: ‘Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh.
‘But obviously, Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning. And I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors. We’re going to miss her.’
R Scott Gemmill, a showrunner of the show, also spoke about Supriya’s exit.
‘It’s sort of the nature of the show,’ he told the outlet. ‘Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works, you come in, you learn, you move on, and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible. So we’re going to turn over our cast.
‘But I think it’s a great launching pad for people. And that’s the best we can do.’
