Naga Munchetty was missing from BBC Breakfast today (August 7) after announcing she will quit the show in December 2026. Instead, her usual co-anchor Charlie Stayt was left presenting alongside relief host Sarah Campbell – suggesting to some viewers that she could eventually end up as Naga’s permanent replacement.
No explanation was offered for Naga being missing from the programme, and viewers soon turned to social media to share their thoughts. One tweeted: “I think Sarah may replace Naga.” Someone else asked: “Anyone know where Naga has gone on #BBCBreakfast?” One viewer suggested Naga has taken a holiday – but she has not posted on social media since being absent from the show.
Naga announced last month that she is stepping down from Breakfast to present the Radio 5 Live morning show instead.
She said in a statement: “It has been a privilege to be part of the BBC Breakfast TV team for the past 17 years, working alongside an incredibly talented and hard-working group of journalists who are not only outstanding colleagues but also great friends.
“Presenting a flagship programme on 5 Live is an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up. It will take a huge amount of work and require 100% of my focus and energy, and I’m really looking forward to throwing myself into the role.”

Odds provided to Express.co.uk from Ladbrokes place Sarah at 6/1 odds to replace Naga, with Sally Nugent the current frontrunner at 6/4,
Luxmy Gopal is currently at 5/2 odds, with Emma Vardy at 3/1 odds and Nina Warhurst at 9/2.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes told Express.co.uk: “Naga Munchetty’s exit will leave BBC chiefs turning to a familiar face, if the latest odds are anything to go by – and as things stand it’s unsurprisingly Sally Nugent who heads the betting.”
