Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look Is Now Streaming on Netflix — Rockstar Finally Gives Fans a 26-Minute Look at the Most Anticipated Game of the Decade

After nearly 13 years of waiting since Grand Theft Auto V first arrived, Rockstar Games has finally pulled back the curtain on Grand Theft Auto VI in a way fans have never seen before.

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, giving subscribers the first opportunity to watch an extended presentation of Rockstar’s hugely anticipated return to Vice City. The showcase later became available through Rockstar’s official YouTube channel and GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET.

More importantly, Rockstar confirmed that the entire presentation was captured from in-game footage running on PlayStation 5, offering the clearest look yet at what players can expect when GTA VI launches later this year.

Netflix Got the First Look Before YouTube

Rockstar’s decision to premiere the showcase on Netflix marked an unusual collaboration between two entertainment giants.

Rather than launching simultaneously across Rockstar’s traditional channels, Netflix members received a six-hour head start. The presentation debuted at 3 p.m. ET before reaching Rockstar’s YouTube channel and official website at 9 p.m. ET.

Netflix described the partnership as a first of its kind, with Brandon Riegg, the streamer’s VP of Nonfiction Series, pointing to Grand Theft Auto reveals as major cultural events capable of attracting audiences well beyond traditional gaming circles.

The strategy turned the GTA VI reveal into something closer to a global streaming premiere than a conventional game trailer.

For Netflix subscribers in New York, the presentation arrived at 3 p.m. on August 27, while viewers in Los Angeles could watch from noon. In Britain, it premiered at 8 p.m.

A 26-Minute Dive Into the New Vice City

The extended presentation runs for roughly 26 minutes and offers a substantially deeper look at Rockstar’s latest open world than the earlier trailers.

Vice City returns at the heart of the game, but this time it exists within the much larger fictional state of Leonida.

Rockstar describes GTA VI as the biggest and most immersive evolution of the series yet. The story centers on Jason and Lucia, two criminals who find themselves caught in a conspiracy stretching across Leonida after what should have been an easy score goes badly wrong.

The extended footage provides a much broader sense of the world surrounding them, moving beyond cinematic introductions to show how Rockstar has expanded the environments, characters and activities players will encounter.

Jason and Lucia Remain at the Center of the Story

While Vice City is inevitably one of the biggest attractions, Rockstar continues to position Jason and Lucia’s relationship at the center of GTA VI.

Jason grew up surrounded by criminals and hustlers before spending time in the Army. He eventually ended up in the Leonida Keys working for local drug runners.

Lucia has already experienced the consequences of the criminal world, having spent time in prison before the events depicted in the game.

Rockstar’s official description suggests that meeting each other could prove either the best or worst thing to happen to them. When their attempt at an easy score goes wrong, the pair must increasingly depend on one another to survive.

That relationship gives GTA VI a two-character foundation while Rockstar builds a much larger criminal world around them.

Leonida Goes Far Beyond Vice City

Although Vice City remains the most recognizable location, Rockstar has made clear that the game extends far beyond its neon-lit streets and beaches.

The fictional state of Leonida includes the Leonida Keys and a variety of other environments populated by criminals, local personalities and characters connected to Jason and Lucia.

One of those figures is Brian Heder, an old-school drug runner operating from his boat yard in the Keys. Jason lives at one of Brian’s properties without paying rent, provided he helps with local criminal work.

Rockstar’s official material emphasizes that the broader state, rather than Vice City alone, will serve as the game’s playground.

The extended presentation reinforces the scale of that ambition, with everything from urban streets and nightlife to waterways and wilderness contributing to the sense of a much larger Florida-inspired world.

The Showcase Arrived After a Turbulent Week of Leaks

The official presentation also arrived after unauthorized GTA VI material circulated online in the days leading up to the event.

Reports described gameplay footage and other information spreading across social platforms, creating another headache for Rockstar ahead of one of its biggest planned promotional moments.

The situation also produced a separate cybersecurity problem when a supposed 113GB GTA VI game file began circulating through torrent sites. Researchers examining the download said it was overwhelmingly filled with meaningless data and contained malicious code rather than a playable version of the game.

For fans eager to experience GTA VI, the safest source remains Rockstar’s official material rather than purported leaked builds circulating online.

The Long Wait Finally Has an End Date

The most important date remains November 19, 2026.

Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on that date.

The game was previously delayed, with Rockstar explaining that the additional development time was necessary to deliver the level of polish players expect from the studio.

“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait,” the company said when announcing the November date.

Pre-orders are already open, and Rockstar says digital customers will be able to begin pre-loading the game on November 12, one week before launch.

GTA VI Will Launch as a Single-Player Experience

Rockstar has also confirmed an important detail about the initial release: Grand Theft Auto VI is being presented as a single-player experience when it arrives in November.

The focus for now is therefore firmly on Jason and Lucia, their story and Rockstar’s enormous new interpretation of Vice City and Leonida.

That makes the extended presentation particularly significant. After years of carefully controlled screenshots and trailers, fans finally have a much longer opportunity to see the world Rockstar has spent more than a decade preparing.

Thirteen Years of Anticipation Led to This Moment

Grand Theft Auto V originally launched in September 2013 and became one of the most successful entertainment releases ever made. The extraordinary longevity of GTA V and GTA Online meant the wait for a numbered sequel stretched across multiple console generations.

Now that wait is approaching its end.

Netflix’s unusual six-hour exclusive window turned Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look into a streaming event, while the 26-minute presentation provided the most substantial official glimpse yet of Jason, Lucia and Rockstar’s modern return to Vice City.

And unlike the years when fans could only speculate about when the next Grand Theft Auto might arrive, there is finally a firm date attached to the countdown.
