Taylor Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown Sets an Early 2027 Window for Its Final Season
After months without a confirmed premiere date, Mayor of Kingstown finally has a clearer return window. Actor Yani Gellman, known for Pretty Little Liars and The Young and the Restless, has revealed that the crime drama’s fifth and final season is expected to arrive in early 2027.

The update came through Gellman’s Instagram announcement that he has joined the cast for the concluding season. He also encouraged viewers to catch up on the first four seasons, which recently became available on Netflix alongside their existing home on Paramount+.
Although Paramount+ has yet to announce an official premiere date, Gellman’s post offers the clearest indication so far of when audiences may see Jeremy Renner return as Mike McLusky for the final chapter of the series.
Mayor of Kingstown Is Reaching the End of Its Story
Created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, Mayor of Kingstown premiered in November 2021 as a Paramount+ original. The series follows the McLusky family, influential figures in Kingstown, Michigan, where the prison system is the town’s dominant industry.
Renner plays Mike McLusky, a man who works to maintain a fragile balance between law enforcement, prison officials, criminal organisations and the people who hold power behind the scenes. In a community shaped by incarceration, corruption and inequality, even small shifts in power can trigger dangerous consequences.
The show has developed a distinct identity within Sheridan’s growing television portfolio. While Yellowstone and its spin-offs have attracted considerable attention, Landman, The Madison and Tulsa King have also become prominent titles in the wider slate.
Mayor of Kingstown, meanwhile, has built its reputation around a darker and more confined world, where violence and political manoeuvring are closely tied to the prison system. Its final season will bring Mike’s story to a close after five seasons.
Paramount+ officially renewed the series for an eight-episode fifth and final season on January 5, 2026, just over a week after the fourth-season finale. The shorter order marks a change from the previous seasons, which typically contained ten episodes.
Why the Final Season Is Taking Time to Arrive
Production on Season 5 began in Pittsburgh in March 2026 and wrapped later in the year. Despite filming being completed, Paramount+ has not yet confirmed when the episodes will premiere.
The series has never followed a particularly consistent release pattern. Its previous seasons debuted in November, January, June and October, making it difficult to predict the next launch from earlier schedules alone.
The streaming calendar may also be a factor. Tulsa King returned for its fourth season in October 2026, while other projects in Sheridan’s expanding television universe continue to occupy the schedule.
Against that backdrop, an early 2027 premiere would give Mayor of Kingstown room to return without competing directly with the autumn slate. However, until Paramount+ makes an official announcement, the window shared by Gellman should be treated as an indication rather than a confirmed date.
What to Expect From the Final Eight Episodes
Although full details of the final season’s plot remain limited, Paramount+ has confirmed that the story will introduce a major new threat to Mike’s already precarious position.
David Morse joins the cast as Russell Hardy, an experienced FBI agent sent to Kingstown following the murder of Mike’s sister-in-law, Tracy McLusky. Hardy’s investigation threatens to expose secrets that Mike has worked to keep hidden and destabilise the town’s delicate balance of power.
The returning cast includes Renner, Edie Falco, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Necar Zadegan, Nichole Galicia and Lennie James. The season is produced by Paramount Television Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions.
The eight-episode run will need to resolve the conflicts surrounding Mike, his family and the competing forces that shape Kingstown. With the series approaching its conclusion, the final season has the opportunity to bring the central storylines together rather than leaving the show open-ended.
Netflix Has Introduced the Series to a Wider Audience
The timing of the release update is notable because the first four seasons have recently reached Netflix, introducing Mayor of Kingstown to viewers who may not have subscribed to Paramount+.
The wider availability has helped bring renewed attention to the series, giving audiences another chance to discover its tense mix of crime, prison politics and family drama before the final season arrives.
The fourth season also received a strong critical response. Paramount+ reported a 100% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes when announcing the fifth-season renewal, reflecting the reviews available at that time.
For Sheridan’s crime drama, the additional exposure could be especially valuable as it approaches its ending. New viewers can watch Mike’s story from the beginning, while long-time fans can revisit the earlier episodes before the final eight instalments arrive.
Taylor Sheridan Reflects on Mike McLusky’s Story
Sheridan has also offered some insight into the personal themes behind the series. In an interview with Town & Country, he described Mike’s predicament as “pretty autobiographical”, linking the character’s feeling of being trapped to his own years of feeling stuck in Los Angeles.
That reflection adds another dimension to a drama built around a man who struggles to escape the responsibilities and power structures that define his life. Mike may be a key figure in Kingstown, but his influence also keeps him tied to the same dangerous environment he is trying to control.
With the fifth season set to be the last, the series has a chance to give that conflict a deliberate conclusion. Whether the early 2027 window holds remains to be seen, but the final season is confirmed, production has wrapped, and the end of Mike McLusky’s story is approaching.
For now, all four existing seasons are available on Paramount+ and Netflix, giving newcomers and returning viewers time to catch up before the final chapter arrives.
