Princess Eugenie Shares Rare Family Photos as August and Ernest Meet Their New Baby Sister

Princess Eugenie has offered a touching glimpse inside family life following the arrival of her third child, sharing a rare photograph of sons August and Ernest meeting their newborn sister for the first time.

The intimate image was released on Monday as Eugenie revealed that her daughter with husband Jack Brooksbank is named Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.

Alongside new photographs of Adelaide, the Princess shared a particularly sweet moment featuring August, five, and Ernest, three, gathered closely around their little sister.

Eugenie described her sons as already being the “best big brothers”.

A rare glimpse inside the Brooksbank family

In the family photograph, August and Ernest can be seen doting on their newborn sister, who is dressed in a onesie with a plush toy beside her.

The picture is especially notable because Eugenie generally keeps her children away from the public eye. While she occasionally shares family photographs, particularly for birthdays and other special occasions, she often avoids showing her sons’ faces directly to the camera.

Reflecting on the family’s first days together, Eugenie wrote on Instagram: “2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.”

She added: “Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”

Eugenie also posted a photograph of Adelaide wrapped in a light blue blanket, along with a close-up of the baby’s tiny hand. HELLO! understands that all of the newly released photographs were taken by the Princess herself.

Eugenie and Jack welcome their third child in Portugal

Adelaide was born on 3 August at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, weighing 6lb 9oz.

Eugenie and Jack have been living in Portugal with August and Ernest since 2022, while maintaining close ties to the UK.

The Princess initially announced her daughter’s arrival on 4 August, sharing a photograph of the newborn dressed in a pink knitted romper. At the time, however, the couple chose not to reveal her name.

Eugenie said she and Jack were “beyond in love with our girlie”.

Buckingham Palace also issued a statement confirming that mother and daughter were doing well.

“Her Royal Highness and her daughter are doing well. Princess Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank are deeply grateful to the hospital staff for their care,” the Palace said.

King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the Royal Family had been informed and were “delighted” by the arrival, according to the statement.

Adelaide is now 15th in line to the British throne.

Why Eugenie waited to reveal her daughter’s name

The couple waited two weeks before publicly announcing their daughter’s full name on 17 August.

It is not the first time Eugenie has taken her time before revealing the name of one of her children.

When August was born in 2021, his name was kept private for 11 days before Eugenie introduced her firstborn son to the public as August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

This time, the Princess used the name announcement to explain the personal significance behind her daughter’s full name.

“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank,” Eugenie wrote.

She explained that the baby had been “named after three people we love and admire past and present”, including her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whom the family continues to hold “close in our hearts”.

A name connecting Britain, Portugal and Queen Elizabeth II

Adelaide’s first middle name, Elizabeth, provides the clearest family tribute, honouring Eugenie’s late grandmother.

But the full name also reflects the family’s connections to the two countries that have become central to their lives.

“Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home,” Eugenie explained.

For the Princess, however, the announcement was about more than revealing a name.

The newly shared photographs capture the beginning of a new chapter for the family of five — with August and Ernest already settling into their roles as big brothers and Eugenie describing their first two weeks with Adelaide as filled with warmth, love and precious time together.
