Not only does UF’s class currently sits at No. 3 in the country according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, it’s also the No. 2 ranked class in the SEC. Florida’s average rating per commitment also currently sits at 91.72.
Though the class holds 21 commitments, the Gators still have some priority targets left on their recruiting board going forward as they work to close out the 2024 cycle.
The Gators still have work to do to fill out a few remaining spots going forward, so there is still some upward mobility this cycle. After a rush of additions these last several weeks, Swamp247 takes a closer look at each verbal commitment currently in the fold.
QB DJ LAGWAY
Commitment Date: 12/7/2022
Ranking: No. 27 overall, No. 3 QB per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 225-pounds
Notes: The top commit in the Gators class is very solid to the Orange and Blue. He’s been heavily recruiting others since giving the coaching staff his commitment back in December. He’s already made several visits to campus over the course of this year to help recruit other targets. He took his official visit to UF in early June, and is planning to be back in town for a few days this coming weekend and also plans to attend some games in The Swamp this season.
S XAVIER FILSAIME
Commitment Date: 4/13/2023
Ranking: No. 30 overall, No. 2 S per 247Sports Composite (He’s a 5-star on 247Sports’ standalone ranking)
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 180-pounds
Notes: Another elite name out of the state of Texas the Gators have in their 2024 class, as they continue to make that state a focus. Filsaime is a Florida native himself, so there was an appeal to be closer to some family in the Sunshine State. The Gators are young at the safety position, and are working to retool the secondary between their 2023 class and 2024 class. Filsaime was a big win for secondary coach Corey Raymond and new defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong when he committed back in April. During UF’s big run of commitments, Filsaime came out and stated he would be shutting his recruitment down. That was some under the radar good news for the Gators while on their hot streak. He plans to enroll early at UF following playing in the Under Armour game. He will be in town this weekend as well.
LB ADARIUS HAYES
Commitment Date: 1/28/2023
Ranking: No. 50 overall, No. 5 linebacker per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 210-pounds
Notes: The Gators were the team to beat really when he landed his offer back as an underclassman. After visiting a few times, the lifelong Gators fan started to admit on record that Florida was the team running out in front. He continued to visit and continued to speak highly of the Gators all the way up to him pulling the trigger earlier this year. Hayes took an unofficial visit to Miami back in June, but a few days removed from it, he came out and stated he would be shutting his recruitment down and would not visit any other schools. He will be back in town this weekend.
LB MYLES GRAHAM
Commitment Date: 8/14/2022
Ranking: No. 43 overall, No. 4 linebacker per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 212-pounds
Notes: Not only is Graham is a legacy prospect, but he’s also an elite player as well. Florida may have added some linebackers through the NCAA Transfer portal this offseason, but they only signed one name from the high school ranks in the 2023 cycle. That moved the need over to the 2024 class, and so far Jay Bateman has been off to a hot start with three very talented names in the fold. Graham has recently moved to Gainesville, and will attend Buchholz high school, giving the Gators another top flight commitment in the state. He will make the short trip over to campus this weekend.
EDGE JAMONTA WALLER
Commitment Date: 6/19/2023
Ranking: No. 69 overall, No. 76edge per the 247Sports Composite (He’s a 5-star on 247Sports standalone rankings)
Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 225-pounds
Notes: Florida landed a big win during their wave of commitments in June, and Waller was one of the biggest additions in that span for the coaching staff. Edge has been a big need for the Gators staff, and Waller was one of the top names on the board for the Florida staff. He picked Florida over other finalists Auburn and Penn State. He had originally planned to make a commitment in late August, but his official visit to Florida went so well that he moved his timeline up two months. He’s going to be back in town this weekend for the Gators recruiting cookout and also will enroll early.
LB AARON CHILES
Commitment Date: 6/17/2023
Ranking: No. 77 overall, No. 7 ranked linebacker
Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 220-pounds
Notes: Michigan had been the heavy favorite for this Top100 defender for most of the year, but the Gators were able to swing the momentum in their favor during an official visit in June. He pulled the trigger while on campus, and added yet another elite linebacker for Jay Bateman’s room. Florida had long felt they were a dark horse in this recruitment, and they pulled off a bit of a stunner when they pulled the rug out from under the Wolverines and landed him last month. Florida will host him again this coming weekend during their cookout.
TE AMIR JACKSON
Commitment Date: 6/17/2023
Ranking: No. 113 overall, No. 6 athlete per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 223-pounds
Notes: Florida had long been seen as a major factor in the recruitment of this Peach State athlete. The Gators have recruited Jackson as a tight end, and they are very high on his catching ability, which is something that has been missing from that position group at UF. The Gators have been in a great spot since they offered back in January. He got to know new tight ends coach Russ Callaway after he was hired, and the two have build a strong connection.
DL AMARIS WILLIAMS
Commitment Date: 6/17/2023
Ranking: No. 172 overall, No. 22 ranked DL per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 270-pounds
Notes: Florida was in a great spot before ever hosting him on campus. He had UF leading heading into his stretch of June official visits. Then he visited Penn State, and moved them to No. 1. However, the Gators hosted him for their official visit and got him to pull the trigger while in town. Florida has long been high on his ability, and see him being able to move around the front line on defense depending on how his frame develops. Florida will have Williams on campus early in the spring, as he is an early enrollee. He will make his second ever visit to UF this coming weekend.
WR JERRAE HAWKINS
Commitment Date: 6/26/2023
Ranking: No. 236 overall, No. 34 ranked WR per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 5-foot-9, 165-pounds
Notes: It’s hard to tackle what you can’t catch, and speed is the biggest part of Hawkins game. Florida has wanted to get faster out wide, and that made Hawkins a big target for the staff this cycle. Penn State was the team to watch early on, but the Gators recruited him much harder. The mix of development UF’s staff has at his position, as well as the opportunity to run track in Gainesville helped the Gators here. He will enroll this coming spring.
DL NASIR JOHNSON
Commitment Date: 6/17/2023
Ranking: No. 284 overall, No. 32 ranked DL
Height/Weight: 6-foot-4 1/2, 300-pounds
Notes: Another big win in June for the Gators, who pulled the trigger while on an official visit to UF. He had the Gators leading heading into that official visit, and the staff got him to shut things down while in town. He had still planned to take an official visit to Florida State in June, but ended up not taking that trip and was back at UF that weekend instead. Florida was happy to get him on board when they did, as he’s been a top target for them along the defensive line. He will be back in town this coming weekend.
WR TAWASKI ABRAMS
Commitment Date: 7/18/23
Ranking: No. 276 overall, No. 40 ranked wide receiver per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 175-pounds
Notes: The Gators have wanted to add speed out wide, and the mission has been accomplished thus far with three quick wide outs. Abrams is the latest commitment to the Gators 2024 class after they flipped him from Florida State last week. He had still been open when he was committed to the Seminoles, and the Gators worked hard to saw him. He took official visits to Texas A&M, Florida, and Florida State in the month of June. After thinking things over for a few weeks, he flipped his commitment, giving the Gators back-to-back classes where they have flipped a four-star from their in-state rival.
OL FLETCHER WESTPHAL
Commitment Date: 7/10/23
Ranking: No. 296 overall, No. 24 offensive tackle per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-8, 335-pounds
Notes: The Gators needed another tackle to their 2024 class, and beat out Arkansas and Clemson earlier this month for the four-star big man. Westphal took multiple visits over the course of his recruitment, but the Gators checked off the most boxes. He will visit again this coming weekend and also plans to enroll early to get his college career started in Gainesville. This was a close race, and a big win for the Gators staff.
RB KAHNEN DANIELS
Commitment Date: 4/10/2023
Ranking: No. 342 overall, No. 29 running back per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 190-pounds
Notes: The Gators pulled off a win back in April, stealing Daniels right from the backyard of Mississippi State. Though many in Starkville felt good on where they stood with him, Daniels was a Gators lean ever since he visited back in March. On that trip in March, the Gators extended an offer to him, and showed him something different than what he’s used to in his home state. Florida followed up a successful visit in March with another successful visit in April. After that second visit to The Swamp, Daniels was ready to commit to the staff. Daniels took an official visit to Michigan State in June, and has admitted Mississippi State is still trying to recruit him. He took an official visit to Florida as well in June, and left that trip saying he had shut his recruitment down. He is expected back in Gainesville this coming weekend.
WR IZAIAH WILLIAMS
Commitment Date: 5/5/2023
Ranking: No. 354 overall, No. 55 wide receiver per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot, 172-pounds
Notes: Williams was offered shortly after the addition of wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales, and he grew up a lifelong fan of the Gators. He visited back in the spring, and also had the Gators come out to a pair of his spring practices. After getting some evaluations on him, the Gators picked their efforts to recruit him up. Once that took place, Williams was ready to join the class. He’s already taken his official visit to Florida, and has stated he will not be visiting any other programs before he signs later this year. He will enroll early. He will be in town this weekend for the Gators cookout.
EDGE KENDALL JACKSON
Commitment Date: 7/12/23
Ranking: No. 478 overall, No. 48 ranked defensive lineman per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 250-pounds
Notes: Florida has long been the perceived favorite for this local defender. After landing an offer from the Gators last year, he proceeded to visit Florida more than any other school. He had previously been looked at as a true defensive lineman, but as time went on, the Gators started to see him being an edge rusher. After official visits in June to Florida, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Miami, Jackson was ready to make a decision and picked the Gators. Florida has done a great job flipping the talent in their edge room this cycle by adding quality depth. He will be back on campus once again this weekend.
S JOSIAH DAVIS
Commitment Date: 3/27/2023
Ranking: No. 529 overall, No. 52 safety per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 85-pounds
Notes: Davis was still a bit of a sleeper when the Gators got involved in his recruitment earlier this year. Though he’s one of the lowest ranked commitment in the Gators class, they feel he’s going to be a strong player for them down the line. Davis does a bit of everything at the high school level, but is going to suit up in the defensive backfield in college for the Gators. He took his official visit to Florida in the month of June, and stated he was fully locked in with the staff and wasn’t planning to entertain other schools going forward. Florida will host him on campus this coming weekend.
OL MARCUS MASCOLL
Commitment Date: 6/19/2023
Ranking: No. 680 overall, No. 52 ranked OT per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-4 1/2, 292-pounds
Notes: LSU had been the team Mascoll had noted being the leader for most of the process. However, Florida made a big move coming out of their official visit in June. The move was big enough to give them the lead heading into his decision date in June and commit to the coaching staff. He’s one of three commitments for the Gators along the offensive line, and someone the staff sees being able to bounce between both guard and tackle. He is going to visit again this weekend.
CB TEDDY FOSTER
Commitment Date: 7/14/23
Ranking: No. 757 overall, No. 68 cornerback per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 170-pounds
Notes: The Gators extended an offer back in the spring after Corey Raymond went to evaluate Foster in person. He impressed Raymond, and after the Gators were able to get him on campus in June to camp in front of the staff, they all collectively were on board with Foster as a prospect. He took an official visit in June and then after a few weeks he joined the class. Foster is raw in some areas of the game, but has his better years ahead of him. Florida will host Foster on campus for the first time since his commitment this coming weekend.
DL MICHAI BOIREAU
Commitment Date: 6/19/2023
Ranking: No. 864 overall, No. 90 ranked DL per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-5, 390-pounds
Notes: This recruitment came down to Florida and Georgia in the month of June. He visited the Gators first and left campus stating they had a big lead in his recruitment. Even after visiting Georgia the following weekend for an official visit, the Gators still were able to win out here. He was the Bulldogs top target at the nose position, but his bonds with the Florida staff were much stronger. He will enroll later this spring, and get his college career started early. He will visit Florida this coming weekend.
IOL NOEL PORTAJAGIN
Commitment Date: 6/14/2023
Ranking: No. 965 overall, No. 69 ranked interior offensive lineman per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-5, 334-pounds
Notes: Florida extended this overseas lineman an offer after seeing him workout during one of their camp sessions. He camped at a few more places in June, and added some other SEC offers. When it came time for him to pick his school in the month of June, it was the Gators who won out here. He lives in Germany, so he’s only had one visit to Florida to date. He will take his official visit to campus later in the year before the Early Signing Period, and will visit for three days this coming weekend for an unofficial visit.
OT MIKE WILLIAMS
Commitment Date: 6/12/2023
Ranking: No. 1412 overall, No. 110 ranked offensive tackle per the 247Sports Composite
Height/Weight: 6-foot-7, 310-pounds
Notes: The Gators extended an offer to this out of state lineman earlier in the year, but not long after he committed to South Carolina. He later opened his recruitment back up, and then scheduled an official visit to Florida. He silently committed to the staff on Sunday coming out of the visit, and announced his commitment the following day. He’s been a vocal recruiter for the Gators since jumping on board, and plans to enroll this coming spring. He will be back in town this coming weekend.
