Photos have emerged of a 30-year-old man who jumped from a Carnival Cruise ship as it was sailing back towards port in Jacksonville.

Jaylen Hill was caught on surveillance camera leaping from the Carnival Elation at around 8am on Sunday, at the end of a four-day trip to the Bahamas. The ship was due back in Jacksonville on Monday.

His travel companion raised the alarm on Sunday afternoon when his disappearance was noticed.

Coast Guard crews began searching, but the search was called off on Monday evening.

‘#UPDATE & FINAL: @USCG #D7 suspended the search efforts for missing cruise ship passenger, Jaylen Hill, Monday, pending any further developments,’ they tweeted on Monday evening.

A commanding officer of the search and rescue crew, Petty Officer Eric Rodriguez, said they were saddened not to be able to find Hill’s body.

‘We offer our deepest condolences to the Hill family,’ said Rodriguez.

‘Our crews take our life saving mission very seriously.

‘Any time we can’t bring a loved one home to their family is a pain we all feel.’

Carnival Cruise Line said the Elation was ‘advised to continue to Jacksonville’ after informing authorities of the situation on Sunday.

The ship, which hosts 2,190 guests supported by a crew of 900, reached Jacksonville on Monday morning.

‘The Carnival Care Team is providing support to the guest’s family and our thoughts are with them and the guest,’ said a spokesman for Carnival, speaking to Fox Business.

It is not known where Hill was from, or who he was traveling with.

Suicides from cruise ships are not unheard of.

In February 2017, Kevin Wellons, 24, of Georgia, was seen going overboard from the Carnival Elation. The Coast Guard suspended its search 36 hours later.

In 2018, a Kansas woman traveling on the Carnival Elation was murdered by her boyfriend, who strangled her on their 13th floor balcony and pushed her overboard.

Eric Duane Newman, 55, of Topeka, pleaded guilty in December 2019 to second-degree murder.

Tamara Tucker, 50, of Lawson, Missouri, hit the 11th floor of the ship and died from blunt force trauma caused by the fall.
