Netflix’s 9-Part Serial Killer Thriller Starring Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù Could Be Your Next TV Obsession

A new Netflix crime thriller is putting a familiar face at the center of a deeply unsettling murder investigation. All the Sinners Bleed, a nine-episode adaptation of S.A. Cosby’s acclaimed novel, stars Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù as Titus Crown, the first Black sheriff in a small Bible Belt county who finds himself hunting a serial killer targeting his own community.

The series comes from Joe Robert Cole, the screenwriter behind Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. With a Southern noir setting, a religiously motivated killer and a sheriff carrying his own painful history, the project has plenty to attract fans of dark, character-driven crime dramas.

What is All the Sinners Bleed about?

The story follows Titus Crown, played by Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, who becomes the first Black sheriff of Charon County, a fictional rural county in Virginia’s Bible Belt.

Titus is already carrying the weight of his mother’s untimely death when a violent case forces him into a much larger investigation. A serial killer has been operating in the area for years, quietly targeting members of the Black community while believing the murders are part of a divine mission.

As Titus leads the search for the killer, his investigation brings him face to face with the divisions, tensions and difficult history surrounding the community. His own past, including his time with the FBI, also becomes part of the story.

The premise comes directly from S.A. Cosby’s 2023 Southern noir novel, which became a New York Times bestseller and was also included on former President Barack Obama’s summer reading list.

Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù leads the cast as Titus Crown

For Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, the role marks another major Netflix project following his appearance in Black Rabbit. He is also well known for Gangs of London, Humans and the third season of Slow Horses.

His performance as Titus Crown places him at the center of a story that combines a serial-killer investigation with questions of faith, justice and community.

Dìrísù was the first cast member announced when Netflix revealed the project in August 2025. Since then, the ensemble has grown considerably. Nicole Beharie plays Darlene Taylor, John Douglas Thompson plays Titus’ father Albert Crown, Daniel Ezra plays Marquis Crown, Andrea Cortés appears as Deputy Carla Ortiz, and Murray Bartlett plays Scott Cunningham. Leila George has also joined the cast as Marlow Stoner.

The cast has since expanded further, with Giancarlo Esposito, David Lyons, Donald Elise Watkins, Mackenzie Astin, Jordan M. Cox, Cullen Moss, Angus O’Brien, Cranston Johnson, Christopher Matthew Cook, Christopher Thornton and Bill Oberst Jr. among the additional names announced. Amy Madigan has also joined in a guest-starring role as Scarlett Cunningham, while Kelly Jenrette has a recurring role as Helen Crown.

That gives the nine-episode thriller a considerably larger ensemble than was known when Dìrísù was first announced in August 2025.

Joe Robert Cole is behind the adaptation

The series is being developed by Joe Robert Cole, who serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer. He is also directing the first episode and select additional episodes.

Cole is best known for his work on Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as well as American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. His other writing credits include All Day and a Night and Class of ’09.

The production also brings together some notable names behind the scenes.

Higher Ground Productions, the production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, is executive producing alongside Amblin Television and S.A. Cosby. Netflix and Higher Ground have previously worked together on projects including Bodkin, Leave the World Behind, American Symphony and Rustin.

Filming has wrapped

When All the Sinners Bleed was first announced in August 2025, Netflix had revealed only Dìrísù as a cast member and had not provided a release date.

Production subsequently began in Atlanta, Georgia, in November 2025. Netflix confirmed the start of filming in November, with the series continuing production through 2026.

According to later production reports, filming concluded on May 15, 2026, and the series is now in post-production. Netflix has confirmed that the adaptation will consist of nine episodes.

There is still no officially announced Netflix premiere date. Some industry reporting expects the series to arrive in 2027, although Netflix has not confirmed a specific date.

Is there a trailer for All the Sinners Bleed?

Not yet. Netflix has released first-look material and production information for the series, but an official trailer has not been released.

That means viewers will have to wait a little longer to see Dìrísù in action as Titus Crown and get a proper look at the dark world of Charon County.

Why All the Sinners Bleed is worth watching

The appeal starts with Cosby’s source material, but the television adaptation has assembled an equally intriguing combination of talent.

At its heart is a sheriff investigating a serial killer whose crimes are intertwined with religion and the Black community he is sworn to protect. Titus Crown must also contend with personal grief and the complicated history of the place he calls home.

Add Dìrísù in the lead, Cole adapting the novel, and Higher Ground and Amblin Television behind the production, and All the Sinners Bleed has emerged as one of Netflix’s more intriguing upcoming crime dramas.

For viewers who enjoy Slow Horses, Gangs of London and serious serial-killer thrillers, this is one to keep on the radar.
