Prince Harry has made a revealing admission about his decision to educate Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in Britain, confessing that returning to a British school environment meant far more to him than he had initially realised.
In a new interview with GQ, the Duke of Sussex opened up about his children’s experiences following the family’s return to the UK. Harry, 42, shares seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet with his wife, Meghan Markle, whom he married in 2018.
The couple are thought to be living somewhere in the Cotswolds and made their first joint public appearance since returning to Britain last week, visiting Nottingham. Harry revealed that the children are now “loving” their new school after settling into their latest educational surroundings.
Asked why the family had returned to the UK and chosen a British school for their children, Harry admitted he had underestimated the emotional significance of the decision.
“Opportunities for the family. Being able to put the kids in a British school has meant a lot to me. I didn’t know how important it was to me,” he told GQ.

“I always thought it was going to be something that we would try and do, but now they’ve been in school for two weeks. They’re loving it and it’s just giving them a whole different experience. I’m not criticising American schools.”
HARRY EXPLAINS WHAT HE WANTS HIS CHILDREN TO EXPERIENCE
The prince went on to explain why experiencing two different cultures could be valuable for Archie and Lilibet as they grow up.
“But I think for kids at seven and five, to be able to have that comparison and to have two completely different cultural experiences is so important today,” he said.

Harry also spoke warmly about being back on British soil for longer than a brief visit, adding that being closer to his family was another important part of the move.
He revealed that he wanted his children to see the places and experiences that shaped his own childhood, while allowing them to focus on the positive memories.
“Wanting… them to have the experiences that I had, the good rather than necessarily the bad, provided real proper serious thinking as to: This is an opportunity, let’s do it now,” Harry explained.
His comments offer a glimpse into the family considerations behind the decision, with Harry making clear that his children’s education and their connection to British life played a significant role.
ARCHIE’S FIRST LESSON DELIVERED AN UNEXPECTED SURPRISE
Harry also recently shared a humorous detail about Archie’s new school year during his and Meghan’s appearance in Nottingham.
Speaking to local schoolchildren who had gathered to meet the couple, the prince revealed that Archie had made one particular request before starting at his new school.
“Most people don’t like math. My son turned around to me and said, ‘Can I go to a school that doesn’t do math?’” Harry recalled.
The prince told his son that such a school did not exist. However, Archie’s first day brought an amusing twist when his very first lesson turned out to be the very subject he had hoped to avoid.
“I said, ‘That doesn’t exist!’ And then he went to his new school, and on his first day, his first class, guess what it was? Math!” Harry said.
The anecdote offered a rare glimpse into the everyday conversations between father and son, away from the attention surrounding the Sussex family’s return to Britain.
SECURITY CONCERNS SURROUND THE CHILDREN’S NEW SCHOOL
Details about Archie and Lilibet’s current school have been kept private, with the name and location deliberately withheld for security reasons.
The children initially started at a school within days of arriving in the UK, but were withdrawn after two days because concerns about their congested commute raised security issues for their parents. They have since enrolled at a different school.
It remains unclear how long Harry and Meghan intend to stay in Britain. The couple are thought to be planning a return to California for Christmas with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
For now, Harry’s latest comments suggest that giving Archie and Lilibet a taste of British life has become an important experience for the family, although their longer-term plans remain uncertain.
