From The Heartbreak That Once Shaped His American Idol Journey To Standing Beside Leah On Their Wedding Day, Iam’s Story Has Taken A Remarkably Emotional Turn.

Three years after winning American Idol, Iam Tongi has reached another major milestone in his life. The singer is officially married.

Tongi, who became the first Pacific Islander to win the ABC singing competition, married his longtime girlfriend, Leah Solis, on Friday, September 4, just days after celebrating his 22nd birthday.

The wedding took place outdoors in Hawaii, surrounded by family and friends. Photos and videos shared by people close to the couple showed a beautiful celebration filled with love, music and traditional Tongan culture.

Tongi first became a household name when he auditioned for American Idol at just 18. His appearance came only months after the death of his father, Rodney, who died from kidney failure.

During his audition, Tongi delivered an emotional performance of James Blunt’s Monsters, a song about the relationship between a son and his father. His powerful performance quickly went viral and helped make him one of the season’s most memorable contestants.

He went on to win American Idol in May 2023. Soon afterward, his emotional song I’ll Be Seeing You reached No. 1 on a Billboard chart, giving him his first major chart-topping success.

Since then, Tongi has continued building his music career while performing around the world. His warm and soothing voice has also made him a favorite within the Disney family.

In 2025, his version of Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride from the Lilo & Stitch soundtrack became a viral hit. He has also worked with Dwayne Johnson on music connected to Disney’s upcoming live-action Moana.

Tongi and Solis had been together for about two years when he announced their engagement on social media in December. Now, they have officially started their next chapter as husband and wife.

Their wedding ceremony included a touching moment when a speaker shared the story of how the couple first met.

According to the speech, Leah first caught Tongi’s attention during a morning ride to seminary, a religious educational program for teenagers. Their friendship eventually became something deeper, and Leah became an important source of support in the singer’s life.

Tongi became emotional when the speaker introduced him as the youngest son of Lily and Rodney Tongi, making the moment especially meaningful given the loss of his father.

The reception continued under a large white tent, where family and friends celebrated with traditional Tongan dances. Tongi and Leah also shared a special dance to Nat King Cole’s When I Fall in Love.

The couple also found a meaningful way to honor both of their backgrounds through their wedding rings.

The morning after the wedding, Maui Divers Jewelry revealed the custom gold and diamond bands created for Tongi and Leah. The designs were developed with Polynesian cultural artist Sam Mangakahia and include details representing both the bride’s Mayan heritage and Tongi’s Tongan roots.

Leah’s ring features a Maya temple inspired design. The temple represents a connection to a higher power, while the rising steps symbolize personal growth and staying connected to something greater.

Tongi’s ring includes the Tokelau Feletoa, a traditional Tongan kupesi pattern from Feletoa in Vavaʻu. The design represents chiefly status and courage and is inspired by the cross-section of a tuna.

Together, the rings give the couple a deeply personal reminder of where they come from and the cultures they carry with them.
