Just When Fans Thought They Knew Dolly Parton’s Final Goodbye… Her Last Personal Request Has Emerged — And The Emotional Detail Has Left Those Closest To Her In Tears ! Behind the glittering career and the songs that became part of generations of memories, Dolly Parton reportedly left behind a deeply personal request for her family.

Dolly Parton spent decades surrounded by glittering rhinestones, packed concert halls and the extraordinary trappings of fame. But the country music icon’s final wish was strikingly simple: to be laid to rest beside the husband she loved for nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, and to finally be comfortable after a lifetime in the spotlight.

Parton died at the age of 80 on Tuesday, August 25, with the news announced by her nephew and longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver. In the emotional video shared on her social media, Seaver revealed that his aunt had spoken to him years earlier about what she wanted when the time came.

The family’s account offered a deeply personal glimpse into how Parton wanted to be remembered — not simply as the larger-than-life country superstar in rhinestones, but as a woman who was ready for peace and rest.

Dolly’s wish was to be comfortable after a life in rhinestones

Seaver explained that Parton had specifically asked to rest in “a beautiful bed of plush cotton,” a poignant request that reflected her connection to her Tennessee roots.

He recalled her telling him that, after spending her life wearing heavy rhinestones, she deserved to be comfortable and have some rest.

The image was especially fitting for an artist whose life and career were so closely tied to Tennessee, country music and the hardworking values of the family she came from.

Seaver described Dolly in a particularly touching way: her father had farmed the soil, while she had “farmed songs and happiness.” Her extraordinary career opened doors not only for her own family, he said, but for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers around the world.

She wanted to be reunited with Carl Dean

Parton’s final wishes also carried the weight of her enduring love for Carl Dean, her husband of nearly six decades.

Dean died in March 2025, more than half a century after the couple married in 1966. Their relationship remained one of the most enduring parts of Parton’s private life, despite Dean largely staying away from the spotlight.

According to reports following Parton’s death, she will be laid to rest beside Dean at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, Tennessee, where he is buried.

That reunion gives added poignancy to Seaver’s description of Dolly being “in the arms of Jesus,” having surely been met by Carl, her parents and others who had gone before her.

For Seaver, announcing his aunt’s death was a responsibility Dolly herself had entrusted to him years earlier.

He had served as her head of security for more than two decades, following his father Larry in the role. He admitted that he had imagined how difficult the moment would be, but said he had not truly understood its weight until it arrived.

His tribute also reflected the enormous influence Parton had on those closest to her.

Seaver recalled first joining Dolly on the road as a child in the early 1980s. He said she had opened doors for her family and helped them reach possibilities they had not even realized were within reach.

But her influence went far beyond her relatives.

Dolly also opened doors for generations of artists and dreamers from every walk of life and across every continent. Through her example, Seaver said, people came to believe that anything was possible.

A lifetime of music, memories and happiness

Seaver noted that Dolly had become a familiar presence in the lives of millions of people.

She had been heard on records, CDs and playlists, seen on television and followed by fans across generations. In that sense, he said, she had become almost like an extended member of people’s families.

Her legacy stretched across an extraordinary career, with songs including “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You” becoming part of the fabric of popular music. She also built a vast legacy beyond performing through philanthropy, business ventures and her work supporting children and education.

And despite the fame, glamour and countless achievements, the final picture offered by her family is remarkably intimate: Dolly Parton wanted to rest comfortably, surrounded by softness, and ultimately be reunited with the man who had shared so much of her life.

Her nephew’s message ended with a simple sentiment that echoed one of
