Princess Anne’s Daughter-in-Law Harriet Phillips Admits Royal Life Is Not Her Normal — And Reveals How Peter Helps Her Through the Changes
Harriet Phillips has spoken candidly about adjusting to life within the Royal Family, revealing that marrying Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, has brought significant changes to her career, family and everyday routine.
In an exclusive interview with HELLO!, the former NHS paediatric nurse admitted that the transition has required patience, although she credits her husband with helping her feel comfortable in unfamiliar circumstances.
“Peter really helps; he’s grounding, because this is his normal. This is not my normal,” Harriet explained.
From NHS Nurse to a New Chapter in Royal Life

Before her marriage in June 2026, Harriet had spent years working as a paediatric nurse while raising her daughter.
She believes those experiences helped prepare her for the changes that followed her wedding.
Reflecting on the importance of remaining grounded, Harriet said that facing difficult situations had taught her to understand herself and maintain her identity.
She also credited her parents with providing a stable upbringing, something she hopes to have passed on to her daughter.
Her professional life has changed considerably, too.
Harriet recently left the NHS and accepted a patronage with Home-Start Cotswolds, a charity supporting families with young children.
The appointment allows her to continue helping parents through difficult circumstances, drawing on her experience in healthcare.
She believes that giving children a stable foundation during their earliest years can improve their opportunities later in life.
The Family Adjustment Harriet Says Matters Most

Although joining the extended Royal Family has attracted public attention, Harriet revealed that her biggest adjustment has been building a new family with Peter.
She described marriage as a welcome change, particularly because she now has someone with whom to share everyday experiences.
However, combining family responsibilities with professional commitments has required a different balance.
Peter has two daughters, Savannah and Isla, from his previous marriage to Autumn Kelly, while Harriet has a daughter, Georgina.
Harriet said she feels fortunate to have the three girls in their lives and is looking forward to their future together.
She also emphasised the importance of approaching their blended family life gradually.
A Warm Welcome From Princess Anne and Kate

Harriet’s interview also offered a glimpse into her relationships with Peter’s royal relatives.
She described Princess Kate as open-hearted and said she would feel comfortable approaching her for advice.
Her first meeting with Princess Anne was equally reassuring.
Harriet recalled sitting with her future mother-in-law on garden benches at Gatcombe Park, sharing cups of tea in an informal setting.
She praised Anne’s strong work ethic, commitment to local charities and loyalty to her family.
The relaxed introductions appear to have made Harriet’s transition into the family easier.
