Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie’s son is preparing for a major new chapter, but his university plans aren’t the only reason James Wessex is suddenly attracting attention. A new poll suggests a striking number of royal fans would like to see the 18-year-old eventually step forward as a working member of the Royal Family.
The growing interest comes just as Buckingham Palace confirmed James achieved the A-Level results required for his next move. Although his exact grades remain private, he has secured his place at the Royal Agricultural University, where he will begin studying Rural Land and Property Management in September. Despite being entitled to royal styling, James has so far chosen not to use it — making speculation about his future role even more intriguing.
It is believed that James, 18, has been raised with the awareness that he will need to get a job and earn his own money for a living.
This concept doesn’t seem to worry James, who is already working this summer on a farm on the Sandringham Estate.
However, while James may be happy with the idea of going to university and then getting a job like most people, royal fans seem to want him to be a working royal instead, just like his parents, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Here at the Daily Express, we launched a poll asking royal readers whether James Wessex should become a working royal.
The poll, which ran from 3.40pm on August 13 to 8.30am on August 15, found that 69% of respondents thought James should become a working royal.
Almost 22% voted no, suggesting they don’t think King Charles’ nephew should become a working royal. Meanwhile, 9% said they don’t know whether or not he should be.
It is believed that both James and his older sister, Lady Louise Windsor, do not want to use their HRH titles.
This is because the siblings both value their private lives. It is also believed they will not become working royals, at least not in the immediate future.
Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie raised both their children to understand that they will likely need to find their own careers when they become adults, something that Louise and James both seem to understand and approve of.
