A father and his two sons, known as The Sound, wowed the AGT judges with their audition of a John Denver classic.

The hit reality show, America’s Got Talent (AGT), is back for its 21st season. Talented individuals with a wide variety of skills will compete for the staggering grand prize of $1 million awaiting one act at the end of the season.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s (July 21st) episode, fans got an early look at one particularly impressive audition. Country band, The Sound, caught the attention of the judges and their fellow competitors with their rendition of “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Released by John Denver in 1971, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998 and was selected by the Library of Congress for inclusion in the National Recording Registry in 2023.

Who is The Sound?

Now based in Nashville, Tennessee, Rob, Levi, and Jacob Mills are originally from Romeo, Michigan. Rob instilled an appreciation for classic country music in his sons from a young age.

In May 2025, they began posting videos online, showing off their haunting harmonies in a hotel stairwell. In just over a year, they have accumulated a following of nearly one million, combined across platforms.

Additionally, their hotel stairwell series has since surpassed 100 million views. Levi Mills shared:

We found out there’s a whole lot of people who value the same things we do: family, faith, and good music. We live in a fast-paced world; it’s refreshing to slow down and appreciate the simple things. That’s what we’re doing.”

The AGT Judges React

The Sound got the audience clapping along before opening “Country Roads” a cappella. The trio harmonized beautifully, evidence of many years of practice and their family synergy.

The performance earned a standing ovation from judges Howie Mandel and Mel B. Mel called their harmonies “perfection.”

“I think America is gonna fall in love with you,” predicted Sofia Vergara.

Simon Cowell praised their performance, but felt it was “safe and nice.” He encouraged them to go beyond safe, should they move forward in the competition.

Ultimately, The Sound received four unanimous yes votes from the AGT judges! Watch their full audition of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” below!
