Wait… what?! Sir Tom Jones’ Voice UK Exit Leaves Fans Furious — And His Own Words About What Happened Are Raising Even More Questions. After 13 seasons on the coaching panel, the 86-year-old music legend is stepping away from the show—but he says the decision was not his. Jones revealed that ITV told him his services were no longer wanted, despite his desire to continue. Now, fans are calling for the beloved coach to return, with a petition reportedly gaining thousands of signatures. Can The Voice UK really be the same without Sir Tom?

Sir Tom Jones is leaving The Voice UK—but the 86-year-old music legend has made it clear that walking away was never his choice.

Jones confirmed that he will not return as a full-time coach for Series 15 after appearing on 13 of the show’s 14 seasons since its 2012 debut. His departure has sparked an immediate reaction from viewers who have come to associate his warmth, experience and unmistakable personality with the programme.

The news comes as ITV prepares to overhaul the coaching panel for the next series, which is scheduled to air in 2027. The broadcaster has since confirmed a new lineup featuring Aitch and Cheryl alongside returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

But for Jones, the change came as an unwelcome surprise.

Tom Jones Says He Did Not Want to Leave

Jones addressed his departure in a statement shared on social media, making it clear that he still wanted to be part of the singing competition.

“To be clear, I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience,” he said.

According to Jones, ITV had made the decision some time earlier but only informed him recently. He said the initial reason given was “a financial difficulty with insurance.”

He also said ITV later presented the change as part of an effort to “refresh” the programme with a new coaching lineup.

Jones was offered a much smaller role that would have allowed him to make an appearance without being involved as a coach from the beginning. He said he was not comfortable with that arrangement.

His frustration was summed up in one pointed observation: “there’s never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who’s still pretty good at his job.”

ITV confirmed that Jones would no longer serve as a full-time coach for Series 15, while saying it was continuing discussions with him and his team about possible involvement in the upcoming series.

A 13-Season Legacy

Jones first joined The Voice UK when the competition launched in 2012. Although he missed Series 5, he returned the following year and became one of the programme’s most enduring coaching figures.

Across his time on the show, the Welsh singer coached three winning contestants.

He guided Leanne Mitchell to victory in the inaugural series, while Ruti Olajugbagbe and Anthonia Edwards also went on to win under his mentorship.

That record is only part of his contribution to the programme.

For many viewers, Jones represented the connection between the show’s modern talent-search format and generations of music history. His career, which includes classics such as It’s Not Unusual, What’s New Pussycat? and She’s a Lady, gave contestants the opportunity to learn from a performer whose career stretches back decades.

His presence also brought a different tone to the coaching panel—one built around experience, warmth and a willingness to connect with singers on a personal level.

Fans React to His Exit

News of Jones’ departure quickly prompted disappointment from longtime viewers.

Fans have taken to social media to voice their frustration, with many arguing that removing him from the coaching lineup risks taking away part of what made The Voice UK distinctive.

Former coach Olly Murs was also among those showing support for Jones, describing the veteran performer as a legend.

The reaction reflects just how closely Jones has become associated with the programme. He was not simply another coach who came and went with changing seasons; for much of the show’s history, he was a familiar face in the red chair.

A Major Overhaul for Series 15

Jones’ exit is part of a much wider transformation at The Voice UK.

ITV has confirmed that Series 15 will feature a completely revamped coaching lineup. Aitch and Cheryl will make their coaching debuts on the series, while Kelly Rowland returns for a second season and will.i.am remains as the only long-standing coach from the original era of the programme.

The network also announced Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon as the new hosts, replacing the previous presenting setup. Series 15 is scheduled to broadcast in 2027.

ITV described Jones as “irreplaceable” in its announcement, thanking him for the years of memorable moments he brought to the show and the singers who performed for him and alongside him.

The broadcaster’s announcement makes clear that this is more than a single coaching change. The Voice UK is entering a new chapter.

Can The Voice UK Feel the Same Without Him?

For Jones, the situation is particularly striking because his own message made clear that he was not ready to leave.

He loved the programme, valued its audience and still believed he had something to contribute. Yet after 13 seasons on the coaching panel, his full-time role is coming to an end.

Whether he ultimately takes part in the next series in another capacity remains to be seen.

What is already clear is that replacing Sir Tom Jones will mean more than filling one red chair. His long association with The Voice UK made him part of the programme’s history—and the reaction to his departure shows how strongly viewers feel about the man who occupied that chair for so many years.

Now, with a new coaching lineup preparing to take over, the biggest question may not be who can replace Jones, but whether the show itself will feel the same without him.
