Scotty McCreery has opened up about a major family change that could reshape his future on the road—and force the country star to rethink how he balances the career he loves with life at home.

Scotty McCreery Says Family Life Could Soon Change His Touring Schedule: “I Think That’ll Happen Pretty Soon”

After years of maintaining a demanding touring schedule, Scotty McCreery is starting to think differently about how much time he wants to spend on the road.

The 32-year-old country singer has no intention of retiring. In fact, he still loves performing, traveling with his band and connecting with fans. But as his sons grow older and childhood milestones begin approaching, McCreery admits he can see himself cutting back on the number of concerts he plays.

For the former American Idol winner, the reason has little to do with losing his passion for music. Instead, it comes down to something increasingly important: being home when his children need him there.

McCreery discussed his future during an appearance on Taste of Country Nights, making it clear that retirement isn’t something he’s contemplating at his age.

“Yeah, the retirement thing doesn’t ever, I mean I’m only 32, I’ll be 33 here in a month or two, but I don’t, I don’t ponder retirement,” he said.

There is, however, one change he believes could happen relatively soon.

“I do ponder doing less shows on the road. I think that’ll happen pretty soon.”

It would represent a notable adjustment for an artist who has spent more than a decade building his career through recording and extensive touring.

McCreery first became a household name after winning Season 10 of American Idol. Since then, he has released six studio albums, played hundreds of concerts and expanded his television résumé with appearances including Celebrity Family Feud.

But life away from the stage has changed considerably since those early years.

His Children Are Changing His Priorities

McCreery’s biggest motivation for potentially scaling back is his growing family.

His oldest son, Avery, will turn 4 this year and 5 next year. That means activities such as Little League and school events are just around the corner — moments McCreery knows he won’t always want to miss because he’s performing somewhere else.

“Just the boys are growing up, you know, Avery will be 4 this year, he’ll be 5 next year,” McCreery explained. “He’s gonna start doing Little League, and he’s gonna start having events at school and I’m not always gonna want to be gone, you know.”

Those considerations come after an especially busy stretch on the road. McCreery has performed more than 400 shows over the past couple of years alone.

While touring has been fundamental to his career, the singer is increasingly aware that his children’s milestones won’t wait for his schedule to clear.

He Isn’t Walking Away From the Stage

Cutting back shouldn’t be mistaken for McCreery losing interest in performing.

Quite the opposite.

“I love what I do, I love the band, I love touring, I love seeing the fans, I love the music,” he said.

That’s why McCreery draws a clear distinction between retiring and simply slowing down.

He still wants music, concerts and his fans to remain major parts of his life. What may change is how frequently he leaves home to perform.

“I’ll never, I don’t, retirement, that word never crosses my mind, but slowing down a little bit does.”

Rather than ending one chapter of his career, McCreery appears to be considering how to restructure it around the life he now has away from the spotlight.

More Than a Decade After American Idol, His Definition of Success Is Evolving

When McCreery won American Idol more than a decade ago, touring was an essential part of establishing himself as a country artist beyond the television show.

Six studio albums and hundreds of performances later, he has built the kind of career that once required him to spend enormous amounts of time away from home.

Now the calculation is becoming different.

As Avery approaches school age and Little League, family events will increasingly compete with concert dates for McCreery’s time. And while another performance can usually be scheduled, many of those childhood moments happen only once.

That doesn’t mean fans should expect McCreery to disappear from the road. His enthusiasm for performing remains clear, and retirement isn’t remotely on his radar at 32.

Instead, his comments point toward a new kind of balance — one that allows him to continue doing the work he loves without sacrificing too many of the moments happening back home.

For an artist who has spent much of his adult life moving from one stage to the next, performing fewer shows may ultimately give McCreery something touring can’t replace: more opportunities to simply be there while his sons grow up.
