Fox News Shakes Up ‘The Five’ As Emily Compagno Lands Major New Full-Time Role

Fox News is making a major change to one of its biggest cable news programs, with Emily Compagno officially stepping into a permanent seat on The Five.

The longtime Fox News personality will join the show as a full-time co-host beginning September 8, marking a significant new chapter in her career and ending her regular run on Outnumbered.

Compagno will appear alongside Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino and Jesse Watters, while Harold Ford Jr. and Jessica Tarlov will continue rotating through the show’s liberal seat. Fox News announced the move Monday, confirming that Compagno’s transition will take effect early next month.

The announcement immediately puts a familiar face in one of Fox’s most prominent television positions.

“Emily is a highly accomplished host whose energy and talent have made her a standout across Fox News Media,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said, adding that the network was thrilled to officially welcome her to the program.

For Compagno, the move represents a major promotion after years of establishing herself as one of Fox News’ recognizable personalities.

She joined Fox News as a contributor in 2018 before becoming a co-host of Outnumbered in 2021. Now, she is moving to a program that has remained one of the most powerful properties in cable news.

Compagno said she was “honored” to receive the permanent position and expressed her excitement about joining the show’s regular lineup.

“Having an official seat at the table on what I truly believe is the most fun show on television is an incredible privilege,” she said. “I am grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”

The move comes as The Five continues to dominate the cable news ratings.

During the second quarter of 2026, the program averaged approximately 3.6 million viewers, including 322,000 viewers in the key 25-to-54 demographic. Fox News also noted that The Five has remained the highest-rated program in cable news for 19 consecutive quarters.

The program celebrated its 15th anniversary in July, making Compagno’s arrival particularly notable as the long-running show enters another stage of its evolution.

Her departure from Outnumbered will also leave another important opening at Fox News. The network said a rotating Fox personality will temporarily fill her position while executives search for a permanent replacement.

Compagno’s career before television was considerably different from the world of cable news. A trained attorney, she previously worked in criminal defense and civil litigation before joining the Social Security Administration, where she served as a federal managing attorney and acting director.

She also worked as a senior judicial extern for the late Judge John T. Noonan on the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and held legal positions in South Africa and Brazil.

Her résumé extends beyond law and television as well. Compagno previously served as captain of the Oakland Raiders cheerleading squad and was selected as an NFL ambassador, representing the league internationally and taking part in a USO tour that included visits to American troops in Iraq and Kuwait.

She has also established herself as an author. Her book Under His Wings, published by Fox News Books, debuted at No. 1 on both Amazon and the New York Times bestseller list during its first week.

Now, however, all eyes will be on her next move.

With Compagno officially joining The Five in September, the familiar lineup is set for a noticeable change—and viewers will soon see how her energetic style fits into one of the most-watched shows on television.

Her first full-time appearance is scheduled for September 8, when the new chapter officially begins.
