GEORGE STRAIT BREAKS HIS SILENCE AFTER DOLLY PARTON’S DEATH — “WE WILL ALL MISS YOU”
George Strait has joined the growing number of country music stars paying tribute to Dolly Parton following her death at age 80.
Shortly after news of Parton’s passing on Aug. 25, Strait took to X to share a heartfelt message for the country legend, reflecting on the extraordinary influence she had on people around the world.
“You’ve had such a huge impact on so many people all over the world, @DollyParton,” Strait wrote. “We will all miss you. May God bless the Parton family.”
The message came just hours after Parton’s representatives confirmed that the singer had died in Nashville following a brief battle with cancer. She was 80.
In a statement to People, her representative remembered Parton as someone who spent her entire life bringing “joy, laughter, hope and integrity” to everything she touched. Her family also emphasized that her generosity reached millions of people who never had the chance to meet her personally.
DOLLY’S LEGACY WAS MUCH BIGGER THAN MUSIC
For Strait, Parton was not simply another country superstar. Her influence stretched across generations and helped reshape the country music world, particularly for women.
During a career spanning decades, Parton earned 26 No. 1 country hits, 11 Grammy Awards and a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Songs such as “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You” became part of the fabric of American music.
But perhaps the most remarkable part of Dolly’s legacy was what she did away from the stage.
In 1988, she established the Dollywood Foundation, initially focusing on educational opportunities for children in East Tennessee. Seven years later, she launched Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program that provides free books to children.
The initiative has since distributed more than 300 million books worldwide, making Parton’s name familiar to countless families who may never have listened to a country record.
Her philanthropy also extended to healthcare, disaster relief and other community causes. She famously contributed $1 million toward COVID-19 research at Vanderbilt University, funding that became part of the research that helped support the development of the Moderna vaccine.
That combination of musical achievement and generosity is what made Parton so difficult to define as simply a singer.
She was a songwriter, performer, actress, businesswoman and philanthropist — but to many people, she was remembered most for making others feel seen and helping whenever she could.
DOLLY CHOSE A PRIVATE GOODBYE
Even in death, Parton’s wishes reflected the private side of her life.
Her family has said she will be laid to rest in a small, private ceremony attended only by immediate family members. Rather than flowers, she had asked that people consider supporting the Imagination Library.
Now, as the country music community continues to process the loss, Strait’s short message carries particular weight.
“We will all miss you.”
For an artist whose music reached generations and whose charitable work touched millions of children, those words may be among the simplest — and most fitting — ways to describe the enormous void Dolly Parton leaves behind.
