Remembering A 9/11 Hero

Each year, the stories of those we lost on September 11, 2001, and the loved ones who continue to feel their absence, live on.

For one bride, Kristin Marino, it was especially important this year to remember her hero father’s remarkable legacy.

Kristin was just a young girl on that fateful day, and her father, Kenneth Marino, was a firefighter for 20 years before losing his life in the attacks.

Kenneth and ten fellow firefighters from Rescue 1 entered the North Tower on 9/11 to help rescue those trapped inside. He was last seen near the 70th floor and all eleven members of the unit lost their lives that day.

Firefighters Step In To Honor Kristin’s Father

Kristin recently got married, and while her own father was not in attendance, his fire brothers stepped in to surprise her in a remarkable way.

Members of New York’s Rescue 1, showed up on her special day with a firetruck to honor Kenneth.

“My dad didn’t show up to my wedding because he was taken from us on September 11th… So look who did. New and retired firefighters from my dad’s firehouse, Rescue One. I finally understand why they say ‘It’s a brotherhood.’ I know my dad was smiling down, knowing that I was taken care of. Thank you for never forgetting FDNY,” Kristin wrote on TikTok.

Rest In Peace Kenneth J. Marino

Kenneth J. Marino was 40-years-old when he died on September 11, 2001. According to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, he began as a volunteer when he turned 18‚ and continued his career of over 10 years as a New York City Fire Fighter.

“He is our Hero‚ our Angel‚ and will always be our special guide through our lives. We will always miss him and know that he is with us‚ and watching over,” his wife, Katrina, wrote.

Kristin was only three at the time of the attacks, and recently shared a video on social media that Kenneth was never found in the rubble.

“He was never “found” so whenever I’m in New York I know I’m in his city and he will be right there next to me at my wedding❤️🚒 #september11,” she wrote, explaining why she chose to get married in New York City.
