Harmony McKee may not consider herself a country singer, but she had the Voice coaches thinking otherwise.

The 19-year-old singer took the stage during night two of the Blind Auditions and delivered a powerful version of Miranda Lambert’s “Gunpowder & Lead.” Her performance was strong enough to make both Riley Green and Adam Levine turn their chairs, while Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah decided to pass.

Then McKee revealed something that surprised everyone.

“I’m not a country artist,” she explained, revealing that this was actually her first time performing a country song. Her musical background is rooted more in R&B, rock and blues.

Levine immediately loved the news.

The coach jumped up, ran across the stage and hugged McKee before making it clear that he was excited about what she could bring to the competition.

McKee later explained that she had only sung a little Johnny Cash with her grandfather, which gave Green a connection he could instantly understand.

Clarkson pointed out that Green did not yet have anyone on his team who sounded like McKee and suggested that her musical background could make the pairing interesting.

Levine quickly pushed back.

He explained that his excitement was not about disliking country music. Instead, he believed McKee had the kind of voice that could work across different genres.

“I just think you can do anything,” Levine told her, praising the power in her voice and calling her one of the stronger singers they had heard.

Then it was Green’s turn to make his case.

The country star talked about his own connection to his grandfather before pointing to Chris Stapleton as an example of how country and blues can work together.

“The fact that you love rock and blues,” Green said, explaining that Stapleton had built a successful sound by bringing a blues feel into country music. He told McKee he had no doubt she could do the same.

In the end, McKee chose Green as her coach.

But instead of an immediate celebration, the room went strangely quiet.

Green appeared genuinely stunned and did not even stand up right away.

“That’s you!” Clarkson told him.

Once he realized McKee had picked him, Green looked around and jokingly asked why nobody was cheering.

The moment became even more fun backstage, where Green admitted that winning the battle felt especially good because he had beaten Levine.

When he returned to the stage, the crowd finally gave him the reaction he wanted. But Green was still jokingly frustrated with the audience.

“Now this is a fun show,” he said, thanking everyone for having him.

With McKee now on Team Riley, Green has added a singer with a very different musical background to his country-heavy team. Her next challenge will be showing whether her R&B, rock and blues influences can become an advantage as the competition moves forward.
