Dolly Parton is getting ready to bring her life story to the Broadway stage.
Last year, Dolly announced she was working on a Broadway musical titled DOLLY: A True Original Musical.
The show is based on her incredible life and career. Dolly gives fans a closer look at her journey by sharing stories from her experiences in a way she has never done before.

So what do we know about DOLLY: A True Original Musical so far?
According to the singer’s official website, this new project “will take you inside the literal rags-to-riches story of Dolly Parton and give you new insight into her triumphs, trials, and trailblazing.”
Dolly has teamed up with some of the biggest names in theater to bring her story to the Broadway stage.
Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher will be directing the musical, and the script was written by Dolly and two-time Emmy Award winner Maria S. Schlatter.
For anyone who gets to see the show, Dolly has made sure it’s packed with special moments. Along with some of her biggest hits, the play will also feature brand-new songs that she’s written just for the production.
For any Dolly superfan out there, that’s a pretty cool opportunity!
“My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really,” Dolly said in a statement. “We have a wonderful director, sets, costumes, choreography, music and all the things you need to make a wonderful, entertaining show! Can’t wait to see you there!”

When Will Dolly Parton’s Musical Come To Broadway?
Dolly debuted her new musical last year at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville, and, unsurprisingly, every show sold out.
But soon, there will be plenty more chances to see the show when it officially opens on Broadway.
Preview performances will begin on Monday, December 7, with tickets available for the public to purchase. The official opening night will be even more special, because it will take place on Dolly’s 81st birthday, on January 19, 2027.
The musical will be performed at New York’s St. James Theatre.
“During our world premiere in Nashville, I was overwhelmed by the deep connection audiences have with Dolly,” director Bartlett Sher said. “You mention her name and people light up and share a time that she has inspired them and brought them joy. But despite all of that genuine love, Dolly has never really shared her story before. She’s offered glimpses and peeks, but this musical allows her to reveal the unfiltered story in her own words. As we prepare to come to Broadway, we’re thrilled to show that rhinestones were never her whole story.”
