Princess Eugenie makes big change with baby announcement
It was different for Eugenie and Jack’s second child, Ernest Brooksbank
© Getty ImagesPrincess Eugenie’s daughter’s birth announcement included one notable difference this time around. Unlike the announcement for her and Jack Brooksbank’s second son Ernest in 2023, which stated his name, no name has been revealed just yet for the family’s latest addition.
It is understood that Eugenie and Jack are taking time to decide on the name of their daughter while the family enjoy spending time together with the baby’s big brothers, August and Ernest.
Similar to his newborn baby sister, August Brooksbank‘s name was not included in the palace’s statement or in Eugenie’s initial post announcing his arrival in 2021. His full name, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, was revealed 11 days later in a post on the Princess’ Instagram.
Tributes to family members
The couple’s first child, August, was named after multiple relatives, including Eugenie’s paternal grandfather, Prince Philip. “He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers,” Eugenie later wrote on Instagram.
© Instagram/Princess EugenieAugust is a nod to Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert, whose full name was Prince Franz August Karl Albert Emanuel. Meanwhile, “Hawk” was inspired by Rev. Edward Hawke Brooksbank on Jack’s side of the family.
In the documentary, Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, Eugenie spoke about naming her son after her grandfather, who was admitted to the hospital shortly after August’s birth. “We named August, August Philip, because grandpa has been such a huge, inspiring character in my life,” she said.
Eugenie and Jack, once again, looked to family members when naming their second son: Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank. The Princess revealed on Instagram: “He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald.”
© Instagram/Princess EugenieGeorge, of course, was the name of Queen Elizabeth’s father, King George V, who had Ernest as one of his middle names. George was also the name of Jack’s late father. His second middle name Ronnie, meanwhile, honored Sarah Ferguson‘s late father: Major Ronald Ferguson.
On the podcast Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah, Eugenie’s mother recalled crying when she learned of the tribute to her father. Sarah remembered: “When Jack and Eugenie told me, it was so moving that they put my dad in there. It was very kind, I thought. Yeah, made me cry, of course.”

Jack and Eugenie welcomed their third child, who is now 15th in line to the throne, on August 3 at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. “Her Royal Highness and her daughter are doing well. Princess Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank are deeply grateful to the hospital staff for their care,” Buckingham Palace noted.
Eugenie, Jack and their family split their time between Portugal and the United Kingdom. The Princess posted a photo of her baby girl the day after her birth, writing: “Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie.”
The palace shared in its own statement that King Charles, Queen Camilla “and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news.”
